Organize
a college expo for your school! Not only can you raise money
by charging a small admission fee, it's also a great way to encourage
students at your school to prepare for college. Talking with admissions
representatives from different colleges is a lot more hands-on
than browsing through brochures and course catalogs.
The
class of 2004 added a twist on the college expo concept by targeting
theirs toward seniors who had already applied to college and
were starting to prepare for college life. They held a dorm decorating
contest to help students start thinking about what to pack for
next fall, sold donated concessions at a "study break café,"
and even had a fashion show!

Spice
up your idea! A college expo - or any other generic idea
- isn't very exciting by itself. Brainstorm ways to make
your fundraiser idea fresh and interesting.

Know
your market. Holding a college expo is tricky in some
ways. Freshmen and sophomores may not be thinking about college
yet - but their parents probably are. Reaching them will
be key to making a college expo a success.

Think
outside the building. Marketing your event to other students
and schools in the area means a huge increase in your potential
audience.
